Welcome Patients!

Hello and welcome to the patient part of this website!

I commend you for researching about smoking cessation. Obtaining information and thinking about changing your behavior are important steps in behavior change. When thinking about quitting, I encourage you to try to discuss smoking cessation with your provider. Most people who successfully quit smoking need some kind of assistance (American Cancer Society, 2014). Your provider is a great place to start when looking for information and assistance.

The following is a list of resources you may find helpful on your journey to cessation:

  • CDC Tips from former smokers  – lots of smoking cessation resources
  • Quit Line Numbers  – This website has a listing of numbers for quit lines. Quit lines have been found to be helpful in smoking cessation. Don’t be embarrassed to call! There are people ready and willing to talk to you as well as give you information.  Research shows that those who use quitlines are more successful than those that try to quit without help. Quitlines can help you by providing you with a counselor to talk with, support, and referrals. Most quitline services are FREE.
  • Quitline information in Spanish
  • US Government website with lots of helpful tools/advice for smoking cessation
  • Smokefree TXT – This is a free text messaging service that gives support, advice, and encouragement to assist with smoking cessation
  • quitSTART app – This is a free app for people who want to quit smoking. It was made originally for teens but adults find it useful as well. It can help you prepare to quit, monitor progress, manage slip-ups, cravings, and provide tools for cessation
